The Pastor's Wife

A few days ago I enjoyed sharing God’s Word at a regional retreat of Gideons International. These men and their wives, who serve in the Gideons Auxiliary, are fully committed to distributing God’s Word and proclaiming the gospel to the whole world. They are also very committed to the local church and their pastors.

One of the men spoke to me about his burden to pray for pastors and pastors’ wives. He said he is especially concerned for pastors’ wives, believing the responsibilities and pressures are great on these women. I really appreciate this man’s concern. During this pastor appreciation month, please join me in praying for the wives of pastors and church staff. They are very special women. Take time to let your pastor’s wife know that you appreciate her and pray for her.

I am writing this column from Boston where the trustees of the North American Mission Board (NAMB) are meeting this week. Kevin Ezell, president of NAMB, invited the editors of Baptist state papers to join him and the trustees in this “SEND City.” Since North Carolina Baptists have a strong partnership with Boston, and some of our churches have sent church planters to serve here, I was excited to accept Ezell’s invitation. You will be reading more about the work in Boston in coming issues of the Biblical Recorder.

Ezell also announced some news that every pastor should know. On Oct. 1 NAMB launched SBC Pastoral Care Line, a phone line that is 100 percent confidential and was established in partnership with Focus on the Family. Any pastor or church staff can call 1-844-Pastor1 (844-727-8671) for anonymous, confidential consultation with any struggle in his life. Pastors, please write down this number, put it in your contact list and call any time you need a confidential friend.
