Ten years later, lessons from Katrina

Ten years ago a life changing storm blasted the Gulf Coast, imposing incredible damage on Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and a portion of the Florida Panhandle. Hurricane Katrina’s devastation reshaped cities, families, churches, businesses and ministries.

Your Biblical Recorder staff wanted to capture the impact of the storm through personal stories. Seth Brown, Dianna Cagle and I listened to some of those who lived through the storm and ministered in the aftermath. We tried to record their experiences for your edification. We believe you will appreciate their stories and the lessons learned through Katrina. Read the story of First Baptist Church, Gulfport here.

Beyond the four states that were damaged, God raised up Baptists from many other states to come alongside our brothers and sisters on the Gulf Coast. North Carolina Baptist Men (NCBM) were among those who invested tens of thousands of hours, untold dollars and overwhelming compassion to bring healing and hope to those in Gulfport. Read the NCBM story here.

Please read this week’s editorial on the media’s lack of credibility. What media voices are you and your church members listening to? This is not a trivial matter. Please share with your church the value of news provided by the Biblical Recorder.

We are supported by your subscriptions, advertising, Cooperative Program gifts and the personal gifts of friends like you. Thank you for your support.

Join us in welcoming Elizabeth "Liz" Tablazon to the Biblical Recorder's staff. She is ready to serve you with your subscription needs and to expand our social media reach. We are excited to have her join the BR team.
