Challenging days for Southern Baptists

These are both challenging and exciting days for Southern Baptists. So much news is coming at us from every level. Some of the news, like the changes at the International Mission Board, are difficult to work through emotionally and spiritually. But challenges have never prevented God’s people from enjoying God’s victory. It just takes us down roads we did not know we would be traveling. Detours don’t destroy us. When troubles come, we often look to leaders for guidance. Ronnie Floyd, president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is often asked what he thinks about issues in SBC life. We posted Floyd’s most recent commentary about the SBC on BRnow.org. Please read his opinion and share it with others.

As your editor I have the honor of preaching in many of our N.C. churches. Last Sunday I preached for the fellowship of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover. The senior pastor, Dr. Ed Yount, has faithfully served this great church for more than 22 years. He served as president of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina in 2010-2011. I’m encouraged to see churches like Woodlawn that face the challenges of the day with courage, faith and a commitment to God’s Word. I hope you pray for sister churches in the SBC and for their pastors. We need to appreciate the value of our partnership with fellow churches in the work of the Great Commission. We serve on the same team for the glory of the true, living God.

October is Pastor/Minister Appreciation Month. Please find ways to encourage and support your pastor in his God-called ministry. Remember to pray for him, also. Click here for a very good article by Diana Davis on the LifeWay website that offers some ideas on how you can bless your pastor.
