Clearly, this year could be one of the most hotly contested presidential elections in history. The tension from that contest also has the potential to inject a lot of emotional and spiritual strain in relationships between Christian brothers and sisters. Already I am reading comments from Christians about every candidate in both parties, saying no Christian can vote for that specific candidate. I certainly agree with much of the conversation, but I am concerned that there is a lot of uncivil talk flying around.
So, this week’s editorial and some conversation between two North Carolina pastors opens the door for a discussion about civility, politics, the pulpit and the church. I hope you will read these articles and share your response with us.
The Super Bowl is getting close. BR sports correspondent, Roman Gabriel III, will be sharing regular reports from Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco. Read his most recent Q&A about a former Panther player who shares his Christian testimony in the unique world of NFL football.
I am writing from Caraway Conference Center where the convention’s board of directors is holding its first meeting of 2016. Some important news will be posted Wednesday on Brnow.org including new board officers, new executive committee members and a plan to use up to $500,000 in convention reserve funds to employ recently retired IMB missionaries as contract workers. Here is one story on the website now, reporting the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina’s Cooperative Program giving record for 2015.
Our content editor, Seth Brown, attended the inaugural Evangelicals for Life conference and the March for Life in the middle of a record winter storm in Washington, D.C. He has written two stories about the event already, with more to come, including one about a unique worship service attended by those stranded in the nation’s capitol.
Have a blessed week and a great Lord's Day this weekend!
