Comforting mothers and mobilizing missions

Mother's Day is fast approaching. This coming Sunday, May 8, is when we honor those special ladies in our lives. It's a joy to obey the Lord's command by showering honor and gratitude upon them (Exodus 20:12). However, we must remember the commemorative day comes with pain for many women.

A dear friend, Laura Thigpen, wrote an encouraging article for those who have experienced infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth or other losses. She offers the comfort of the gospel, because our Lord can sympathize with our pain. He is aquainted with grief, and He offers comfort. Take the time to read her post and share it with loved ones.
Speaking of showing honor, check out the all-star list of people that received accolades from N.C. Baptist entities at this year's Heritage Awards Banquet, co-sponsored by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and the N.C. Baptist Foundation.
Our editor, Allan Blume, wrote an editorial highlighting an important issue related to North Carolina's bathroom law, House Bill 2. He includes the text of a speech given by Mark Harris at a recent political rally in downtown Raleigh. Political leftists have been pummeling conservative lawmakers with accusations of discrimination and bigotry. Harris, who is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Charlotte and a U.S. congresssional candidate, exposes the true origins of opposition to the common-sense law that protects women and children.
North Carolina Baptist Men, also called Baptists on Mission, hosted their annual gathering April 15-16 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. Read our report on the missions mobilizing event. It was encouraging, engaging and featured an incredible lineup of speakers.

As the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting draws nearer, stay up to date by visiting brnow.org. This week a slate of nominees has been announced, along with the full program schedule. Make plans to join us June 14-15 in St. Louis as we take part in this cooperative, Great Commission effort.
