Most of the nation is focused on the devastation in the path of Hurricane Harvey this week. We posted a related article Tuesday so our readers will know that North Carolina Baptist Men (NCBM) is poised to respond if called. Since the flooding is not over, rescue and recovery teams are still hard at work, while disaster relief organizations prepare to go at a moment's notice. Pray for the people in Texas and Louisiana who are experiencing devastating loss. We will let you know if NCBM is called into action.
Did you know this is the week of prayer for the North Carolina Missions Offering? Of course, NCBM receives almost all of their annual funding from this important offering. Please pray that this year’s offering will be very generous. We do not know when our disaster relief teams will be deployed, so N.C. Baptists need to give to NCMO now.
Do you have the 2017 N.C. Pastor’s Conference and the Baptist State Convention’s annual meeting on your calendar? If not, I hope you will reserve these important dates now and make these gatherings a priority. The pastor’s conference is Nov. 5-6 and the annual meeting is Nov. 6-7.
The biggest news in the evangelical world may be developing over the next few days. On Tuesday the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) released a document called The Nashville Statement. It lists 14 affirmations and denials consistent with the church’s historic teachings on human sexuality. A story about this document and some reactions to it will be posted Wednesday on BRnow.org. It will surely cause a storm of protests from those who do not embrace (or understand) the biblical world view that most evangelicals support.
