Unprecedented, unnecessary campaigns

In his regular Biblical Recorder column this week, Milton Hollifield offered some comments about the Southern Baptist Convention’s (SBC) annual meeting in Dallas, June 12-13. He expresses a concern that is widespread – both in North Carolina and across the broader SBC. Unprecedented attacks against a candidate for the SBC presidency have been aimed at discrediting J.D. Greear. Like many others, I’m also grieved over the very negative political maneuvering we’ve been seeing this year. There is no need for it. Please join Milton, me and others in praying for our convention.

Also pray for the newly elected SBC Executive Committee presidential search team. The following were elected to serve: Steven Swofford (Texas), Joe Knott (North Carolina), Rolland Slade (California), Stephen Rummage (Florida), Carol Yarber (Texas) and Adron Robinson (Illinois). Read the full story here.

In my editorial this week, I highlighted two lessons from history. One reminds us of a horrible atrocity, the other of a spiritual giant from N.C. Baptists’ recent past. The lessons from both points of reference must not be forgotten. Please take a few minutes to read it.
Podcasts have been a trendy communication tool for about 10 years, but in the last 3-4 years they have become even more popular. In a team effort by the BR staff, we shared a story about several popular podcasts this week. Some North Carolina Baptists are doing a great job with podcasts. Read their story here and tune in.

Have a great week. Thank you for being part of the BR team and for allowing us to be on your team!
