Pray, Pray, Pray!

In a few days, messengers from Southern Baptist churches will meet in Dallas, Texas to hear reports and conduct our convention’s business. The occasion is typically packed with meetings, fellowship, encouragement, inspiration, information and challenge. Sometimes moments of despair and disheartenment shroud the more positive highlights.
This year we will begin the convention on a low note. Let me quickly clarify – there are some outstanding, positive things happening prior to the opening gavel of the business sessions. Crossover Dallas will focus on sharing the gospel with thousands in the area who do not know Christ and hosting a large Harvest America Rally with Greg Laurie on Sunday evening, June 10. The Pastors’ Conference on Sunday and Monday has the potential to set a positive tone for the convention through strong preaching and worshipful music.
But some grave concerns have spread like wildfire across our convention. There’s concern about the way we are handling some issues and some people. A lot has been said to make the presidential election the most divisive in decades.
While most of us want to jump in the fray and fix everything, only God can resolve the problems we face. Our role is to humble ourselves and pray. We must pray.
In this story by Baptist Press correspondent David Roach, SBC president Steve Gaines said he sees hopeful signs. He sees God at work through our trials. That’s the way God works. His glory shines brightest in our darkest hours. So, please pray that God’s presence will be obvious in our relationships and throughout all of the convention’s events.
