As promised, this week’s print edition of the Biblical Recorder is filled with articles that review the recent Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Dallas, Texas. Many of our readers have seen the headlines in social media or on BRnow.org. But, there is so much to take in, and if you’re like most of us, you have not been able to absorb the full impact of the convention’s news. With this print edition in hand, you can relax in your favorite chair and read all about the events in Dallas.

Also in this issue, you’ll see three opinion articles from Milton Hollifield, Chris Hefner and me. Hollifield and Hefner share their reflections on the Dallas convention. My column offers a more sobering thought. I wonder if we are embracing some of the “post-truth” philosophy of the secular world in the way we communicate with each other – especially when we hide behind internet blogs and social media posts. Some of the things our brothers and sisters are writing is simply not factual. Often it is personal opinion, masquerading as truth. I hope you will take a few minutes to read my commentary and share your thoughts.

I’m glad the Dallas convention is behind us. Now we need to refocus on our main mission. Jesus did not die on the cross so we could have convention meetings. They are important to our process, but they are not the purpose of our calling in Christ. It’s time to proclaim Jesus to a lost world, live godly lives and make disciples who will make disciples.
Please be committed to praying for our new convention president, the officers, the search committees for the International Mission Board and the Executive Committee, the trustees of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS), the interim president of SWBTS, all of our seminaries and the leaders of all Southern Baptist agencies and institutions. Please pray for your Biblical Recorder staff, also. It is our privilege to serve you in God's Kingdom work.
