I’m excited about the stories in this week’s print edition of the Biblical Recorder
. News tends to lighten up in the summer, but we have some interesting stories about God’s work in North Carolina, and people need to know about these ministries. Some of those stories are highlighted in today’s BRweekly
: the N.C. mapping project, the ministry of the N.C. Baptist Foundation, the first building for Shepherd’s Flock church, the State Legislature’s actions to help a N.C. pastor overseas and much more! If you subscribe to the Digital Edition, you don’t have to wait for the printed newspaper to arrive at your door. (Click here to read a sample digital edition
if you are not a current subscriber.)
However, one important story reached us as we went to press Monday morning. Lee Pigg
, president of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSC), called to say he will not be running for a second term as our president. Both Joel Stephens
, first vice president, and J.D. Grant
, second vice president are completing their terms of office and do not plan to seek another office. Read the full story here.
This may be the first time in BSC’s history – certainly in recent decades – that there will be no incumbents running for office.
This likely raises questions in some minds, but I know all of these men very well, and each of them assured me that they have other priorities they must focus on. Each of these men have served faithfully and joyfully. Each has emphasized that nothing negative has led them to this decision. Pray for those that God is raising up for leadership.
