Heard the latest news?

Last Friday the Biblical Recorder broke the story about a data breach at the International Mission Board. If you have not read the story yet, please take a few minutes to learn the breadth of this data breach and consider the impact on those who applied for mission service overseas and for those who actually serve in international mission fields. Pray for the safety and security of everyone impacted by this cyber crime.

In last week’s BRweekly, we reported that the current top three officers of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina – president, first vice president and second vice president – do not plan to run for an office at the convention’s annual meeting later this year. Since that time, four candidates have announced for the positions. More will likely jump in the race. We’ll keep you informed as candidates share their intentions with us.

If you’re reading this column on Wednesday morning, it is possible that Andrew Brunson is in a courtroom in Turkey at this moment. Jailed as a suspected terrorist and spy, N.C. pastor and American citizen Andrew Brunson has a glimmer of hope as he approaches his Wednesday, July 18 court date. A reliable Turkish news source has suggested Brunson may be released this week after sitting in his cell for a year and a half.

His case has attracted enormous attention in the U.S., both politically and religiously. Many levels of the U.S. government have intervened on behalf of Burnson and threatened serious political consequences against the government of Turkey if they fail to release Brunson soon. A few weeks ago I wrote a story about appeals for his release that came from N.C. legislators. Pray! Pray that our brother in Christ will be found innocent of all charges and released.
Your support of the Biblical Recorder's ministry is important and very much appreciated. Thank you for sharing with your church family that this e-newsletter and our website, BRnow.org, can keep them up to date on events and news in Baptist life. Many still prefer the printed newspaper, so we hope your church friends will subscribe to the printed Biblical Recorder, also.

This weekend is the R2B apologetics conference in Cary. If you live in the greater Raleigh area, check out the schedule, speakers and location here.
