The annual convention of Southern Baptists tends to get a lot of attention. It should. The messengers of the churches conduct very important business every June and make critical decisions for our direction as partners in the Great Commission. But, within a few months, hardly anyone is thinking about the meeting. We move on to day-to-day ministry and urgent matters at hand. Such is to be expected.
However, very few messengers to the convention sat through every minute of every session. And the majority of Southern Baptists were not able to attend the meeting. There is also a high probability that those attending were distracted and missed an important motion, resolution or report. That’s why the annual report is published and made available to all Southern Baptists. We posted a story on BRnow.org
that calls the annual “a powerful tool”
and announces its release.
The SBC annual is not as inspiring as your daily devotions or Bible study time. But it would be wise to take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the publication. It really is a powerful tool, providing information on all related SBC ministries. The publication is a treasure trove of historical data. Keep that in mind when you’re looking for that important piece of history for a sermon illustration or Bible study class. Be sure you download a copy of the annual soon – and keep it handy.
We need to spend some time praying about the unfinished business in the SBC. As you know, the International Mission Board and the SBC Executive Committee are searching for new leaders of these strategic organizations. Southwestern Seminary’s trustees will soon name the search committee for a new president. The North American Mission Board recently announced the expansion of their evangelism strategy.
Many state conventions, associations and churches are struggling. There is much to pray about!
Thank you for depending on the Biblical Recorder as your news source. Pray for us, also!
