Virginia pastor suffers major burns from backyard fire
Kevin Corey, youth pastor at Calvary Road Baptist Church in Alexandria, Va., suffered third-degree burns over most of his body after a gas can exploded in his hand last week.
According to local news reports, Corey was burning documents in his backyard. He was adding gasoline as an accelerant and apparently, the gas can got too close to the fire and exploded.
Corey was in the process of moving to Glasgow, Va., to take a position as pastor of another church.
His daughter Jenna Guercia, who has provided updates on Corey’s Facebook page, said Corey will have to undergo at least 20 surgeries in the coming months. He is currently hospitalized in the Washington, D.C., area.
