Congratulations Danny Akin!
This week Michael McEwen and I have been on the campus of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS). Their board of directors led a celebration of Danny Akin’s 10th anniversary as president of the school. Without question, the seminary has seen explosive growth.
When Paige Patterson accepted the presidency in 1992 there were fewer than 600 students enrolled, and the school was on double probation. The campus was in serious need of repair, and some buildings were closed.
Today 3,000+ students are enrolled. Every building is in use. More than $7 million in new facilities have been added and millions more have been spent on renovations. The attractive campus is alive with excited, friendly students who are being equipped to take the gospel to the ends of the earth.
There was one endowed faculty chair 10 years ago. Today there are eight. The faculty is second to none in the world of theological education.
Baptists should be grateful for the way God has blessed this seminary in the borders of our state. You will be blessed to take a group from your church to tour the campus. They welcome tours from all age groups. Watch for a story about SEBTS in the next edition of the Biblical Recorder and on BRnow.org.
Meanwhile, the debates about the "Noah" movie, the Hobby Lobby litigation and World Vision’s faulty personnel decision are continuing to make headlines. Follow all of the latest news that impacts your Christian walk by reading the Biblical Recorder and BRnow.org.
Keep praying and giving to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions.
