Will secular media speak truth?

Sunday I preached in two morning services at Cape Carteret Baptist where Biblical Recorder board member Kevin Clubb serves as pastor. What a great church in the beautiful coastal area! I really appreciate this church family's support of the Recorder and the BRweekly. It is exciting to see how God is working from the seashore to the mountains of our state to impact lostness.

Monday I spoke to the pastors of the Atlantic Baptist Association. It is such a privilege to meet with pastors on the front lines of ministry. These men are a blessing to me. Thank you, faithful pastors, for being true to God’s Word and steadfast in His call!

Credible news media is getting to be as rare as water in Death Valley. This week a national digital news organization posted a story about the pastor of a California Southern Baptist church who reversed his beliefs about homosexuality. He says he now embraces the homosexual lifestyle and disagrees with Southern Baptists. Sadly, that part of the story was factual.

But the writer, Brett Wilkins, proceeds to connect the story with the pastors of two churches in North Carolina who made vitriolic statements against gay lifestyles. There are two problems with this part of the story. First Wilkins implied that the NC churches are Southern Baptist churches. They are NOT. Second, one might assume the statements were made recently. Actually, they were made more than two years ago during the debate over the state’s marriage amendment referendum.

Once again, writers and news agencies show they are willing to proliferate deception under the guise of accurate information. Jesus had something to say to deceivers in the first century. He looked into the eyes of the hypocrites of His day and said, "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it," John 8:44.

The subjects of homosexuality, Islam and Calvinism will likely be on the table in next week’s convention in Baltimore. Pray for the proceedings of the convention and pray for God to bring revival to all of us! Follow the news from Baltimore on Twitter, Facebook and on BRnow.org. Your Biblical Recorder team will be there for you. People need to know!
