Church revitalization & planting

Although some churches will struggle to keep their doors open, it is becoming more common for a church to disband, and either sell the property or give it to a local association. This week’s Biblical Recorder tells the story of two churches who agreed to a unique arrangement. Read the story of how God worked through Emmanuel Baptist Church in Charlotte, a traditional white congregation, to give their property to Meeting Place, an African-American church plant. Their story demonstrates genuine kingdom vision. It shows how church leaders can unselfishly disengage themselves from possessing material property and humbly recognize God’s ownership of His church – the people and the property. You will be encouraged by this testimony.

Last weekend I attended Alex McFarland’s annual apologetics conference in Spartanburg, S.C. One particular speaker caught my attention with his message on the biblical perspective of homosexuality. Read my comments in this week’s editorial about Sean McDowell’s sermon, dealing with the important question, "Is homosexuality a secondary issue?"

If you want to be on the front line of today's culture clashes, don’t miss Star Spangled Sunday live from First Baptist Church, Charlotte this Sunday night, September 14. It promises to be a great celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner.

Don’t forget the high value of the North Carolina Missions Offering. This month encourage your church family to give generously to impact lostness in North Carolina and beyond.

Last Sunday I enjoyed the privilege of preaching at Mountain View Baptist Church in Hickory. Dr. John Compton is giving great leadership to this growing congregation. The church blessed me with their genuine worship, gracious spirit and hunger for God’s Word! This is one more reason why it is exciting to serve with fellow Baptist churches in N.C.

Tell someone today that you love them enough to pray for them, and Jesus loves them enough to answer the prayer.

People need to know!
