Churches find new life

In the last edition of the Biblical Recorder we ran a story about two Charlotte area churches that found a way to blend together for kingdom purposes. This week the Recorder has two more stories of church revitalization – one in Morganton and one in Fayetteville. Each one is very unique. You will be encouraged as you read these great testimonies of God’s hand at work in North Carolina churches.

I have an observation from these three stories. Not one would have ever happened without the application of humility. Leaders had to humble themselves, consider unselfish options and seek God’s best for the community and the Kingdom. God responded to these churches with a strong measure of His grace in fulfillment of His promise in James 4:6b, "...He gives grace to the humble."

If you live close to Raleigh, please attend the "Take Your Stand Rally" next Tuesday, September 30 at 11:00 am on the lawn of Hallifax Mall. The goal is to stand publicly, unashamedly for the biblical values of marriage.

I enjoyed warm fellowship with the Elizabeth Baptist Church family in Shelby last Sunday. This church has the largest BR group subscription of any church in the state. Thanks for your support, friends! Pastor Rit Varriale is leading these people to be informed and to proclaim the Gospel faithfully. You may know Rit from his keenly written book, Reformation in Responsibility. If you have not read it, get a copy from Amazon as soon as possible.

How is your church ministering to the military veterans in your community? Major General Doug Carver said there are 175,000 veterans in N.C. Read his challenge here.

Remember: Pastors appreciation month is almost here! Looking for resources to help? (1) Focus on the Family has a website that will guide your expressions of gratitude. They also have a Facebook page for this purpose. (2) LifeWay also has a website filled with ideas for blessing the church’s shepherds.

Pastor, are your church members getting the BRweekly? It's FREE! Help others be informed on issues that relate to Christian ministry, Great Commission missions, cultural challenges and news in Baptist life.

Don’t forget the high value of the North Carolina Missions Offering. Encourage your church family to give generously to impact lostness in North Carolina and beyond.
