The prayer of the children

The pain some children face is expressed in a powerful song that emerged in 1994 from the heart of song-writer Kurt Bestor. The lyrics were birthed many years earlier out of his experience in war-ravaged Yugoslavia. He attempted to express the horror in the hearts of helpless children during painful wars that engulfed the small countries of Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia. The song begins,

Can you hear the prayer of the children
on bended knee, in the shadow of an unknown room?
Empty eyes with no more tears to cry
turning heavenward toward the light.
Crying, "Jesus, help me
to see the morning light of one more day,
but if I should die before I wake,
I pray my soul to take."

The song continues with more lyrics that mark painful emotions. It is a beautiful song from horrible circumstances. It reminds me of the testimonies of some children who enter the care of the Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina (BCH). Every time I hear the song on my ipod my mind travels to the faces of these hurting children. Thanks to your gifts to the Cooperative Program and the special Thanksgiving offering for BCH, many children have discovered the power of God to heal unspeakable emotional and physical wounds.

This is the week of prayer for the children and the BCH ministry. Please pray and give generously so these children will hear the gospel at one of the homes of BCH and experience the healing power of our Father. Read this story about the BCH's moving report at last week's annual meeting of N.C. Baptists. It is in this week's Biblical Recorder.

Please take a few minutes to read this week's editorial that asks the question, "Is there value in the annual meeting?" As always you may add your comments at the end of the post.

This week we reported that a valuable piece of Baptist property could be sold to a ministry on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill. Read this very important story.
