Why is CP important?

I was moved over Easter weekend to share some thoughts about one of the richest, most popular Christian songs of all time, Amazing Grace. As you read my personal perspective on the song, pray that God will continue to use the witness of Amazing Grace to impact the world with the gospel of our risen Savior.

Sunday, April 12 is Cooperative Program (CP) Sunday. Most likely the overwhelming majority of Southern Baptists do not know what the CP is or how important it is to our Great Commission strategy. Frank Page, CEO of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee said, “I do not know of a better plan for any church – small, large, new, growing, graying, or ethnic – to accomplish an Acts 1:8 strategy than through the Cooperative Program!"

Would you like to know how important CP is? Try striking through the following ministries that you believe should be eliminated: Baptist Children’s Homes, Baptist Men, Fruitland Baptist Bible College, N.C. Baptist Aging Ministry, church planting, church revitalization, women’s ministry, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, the International Mission Board, the North American Mission Board and many more. We need all of them! Each one has a very important role in the work God has called us to do as we impact lostness in N.C. and worldwide.

Tell your church family about the important ministries that they are supporting every week when they tithe to the local church. Talk about this in your Bible study class. Click here to read an interesting article we published last June about a panel discussion on CP at the SBC annual meeting in Baltimore.
