SBC pictured well in Columbus

If you want to know what the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) looks like, you should have been at the annual meeting in Columbus, Ohio, this week. Pam and I have been attending these conventions since 1976 in Norfolk, Va. Looking across the arena and around the halls of the convention center, I observed the most diverse group of Baptists of any SBC gathering in my lifetime. The diversity in the age of the messengers and the racial composition of the group was encouragingly broad. I’m impressed and blessed to see so many people with Asian, Latino and African American roots. And the large number of younger Baptists was outstanding!

I believe Ronnie Floyd’s annual president’s sermon will be marked as one of the strongest messages preached by an acting president. He spoke prophetically, boldly and compassionately. It was the timely message that we need to hear. Purchase the CD or DVD, or when this sermon is available online, reserve time to give your attention to the full sermon.

We’ve posted some great stories about the meeting in Columbus, and more stories will be rolling out for days to come. Read each one! This is your Baptist family. Watch what God is doing. Join what God is doing. Pray for God's hand to bless us and do more – all for His glory!

Dads, have a happy Father’s Day!
