In this week’s print edition of the Biblical Recorder
I shared my thoughts about the Cooperative Program. Read my editorial "Let’s talk about CP"
before you attend the annual meeting of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSC). I mentioned that the BSC’s Budget Special Committee and board of directors will present a budget that includes a great leap in CP giving. Kudos and appreciation go to budget committee chairman Tony Honeycutt, business services executive leader John Butler, executive director-treasurer Milton Hollifield, the members of the budget committee, the BSC staff, and our elected convention and board officers.
Sunday I preached the two morning services at Elizabeth Baptist Church (EBC) in Shelby where Rit Varriale is pastor. This is the church that launched the "God Before Government" movement when they raised the Christian flag above the American flag in front of the church building on July 5. The Sunday morning service was the beginning of their "We Stand Firm Conference." The services continue through Wednesday night and include Kelvin Cochran, the Atlanta fire chief fired for his faith, and the Benham Brothers, who were fired by HGTV because they held Christian beliefs. I appreciate this great church and their public stand for truth. By the way, this church has the largest number of Biblical Recorder subscribers of any N.C. church. Thank you, EBC family and pastor Varriale!
This week the BRweekly gives you the stats for the release of the Woodlawn movie, tells a story about the great ministry of Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina and a shares a valuable summary of the recently concluded session of the N.C. legislature. Thank you, Mark Creech for your leadership at the Christian Action League and for providing this great summary! Don’t miss any of this important imformation!
Has your church voted to approve you as a messenger to the BSC annual meeting? The Pastors’ Conference and the annual meeting will be well worth your time. I hope to see you there!
