Thank you!

A lot of "Thank yous" are being uttered this week. That’s a good thing! It is good to give thanks to the Lord. Sunday I preached for the two morning services at my church, First Baptist in Cary, while Pastor Jay Huddleston enjoyed some vacation time. The text for the message was from the fourth chapter of Philippians, but I pointed to the opening verses of Paul’s letter in chapter 1, verses 3-5. "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now." Paul thanked God for the people in Philippi who partnered with him in ministry. They had a "fellowship" with Paul in the ministry of the gospel. That’s definitely worth some strong "thank yous."

I am also grateful for the partnership I have with you – fellow North Carolina Baptists. Our partnership and fellowship is valuable. We have the privilege of serving together in the state of North Carolina to proclaim Jesus Christ as the only way to heaven, the only way to forgiveness of sin and the only Savior for all mankind. I thank the Father for giving us eternal life through His Son and for the joy of serving with you as we live for Him and proclaim Him.

We just finished week of prayer for the Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina (BCH). I hope you continue to take time to pray and give thanks for this very exciting ministry. Pray for Michael Blackwell and his staff. Pray for the house parents and other workers who daily interact with children who come into this ministry. Pray for the children and developmentally disabled adults. Pray for God’s provision for every need of BCH. And pray about what your personal gift will be to support this statewide ministry. Give to the BCH Thanksgiving Offering through your church or online at BCHfamily.org.

This Sun., Nov. 29 is the beginning of the week of prayer for international missions. This is an extremely important year for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering! As you know, reduced income in recent years is forcing the International Mission Board to significantly cut back the number of missionaries we have around the world. This should not happen. Every church and every Baptist needs to consider doubling our previous gifts. It can be done. With God, nothing is impossible.

Sunday is also the first day of the advent celebration. Visit the Biblical Recorder’s Advent resource page today and learn fresh new ways to celebrate the birth of our Savior.

All of the Biblical Recorder's staff hope you have a super-blessed and very happy Thanksgiving.
