Looking back, looking forward

This week’s print edition of the Biblical Recorder gives our readers a review of the news from 2015. We separated the news into categories such as Southern Baptist headlines, North Carolina Baptist stories, news about cultural issues, personalities in the news and some of the most significant deaths in Baptist life. We also listed the news that got the most attention on BRnow.org and in social media.

Looking back is a good thing. It allows us to evaluate and learn. There’s a lot to learn from the events of 2015. Christians received a huge wake-up call on June 26, 2015 when the Supreme Court of the United States stepped beyond the Constitution and created a new "right." If we are not learning from the court’s decision, we are hopelessly unteachable. I hope this action has changed our prayer life, increased our passion for proclaiming the gospel and stirred us to live by Christian principles.

Looking ahead is a good thing, also. It prompts us to make plans, set goals and anticipate ways to improve what we do. Without goals, we have no direction. Without plans, we wander aimlessly and waste time. The year 2016 is too valuable to waste. I pray for divine wisdom in your life as you step into the new year. I pray that it will be a productive year and that God will be glorified in all you do. Let's join Milton Hollifield in his resolve to pray for God to move in mighty ways in 2016. The church needs it. The nation needs it. The world needs it. You and I need it.
