Changes are coming

It’s the beginning of a new year and the cloud of uncertainty hangs loosely overhead. We do not know what will come our way in 2016, but we know at least one thing for sure – changes will come.

Americans will go through the arduous process of electing a new president. This will take us down the long road of state primaries, national conventions of the two parties and the eventual voting process on November 8. Many candidates will fall by the wayside, but one will win the presidency.

A new Super Bowl football champion will be crowned, a new NBA contender will take home the trophy, and a baseball team will be the new World Series winner.

Children will be born into the world and people of all ages will die. Natural disasters, accidents, terrorism, drugs, alcohol and a host of evils will claim the lives of millions.

Students will graduate. Many will get new jobs and some will lose their jobs.

Missionaries will be sent, churches will be planted, churches will close their doors, pastors and staff will move from one church to another, and church members will shift between churches.

The Southern Baptist Convention will meet in St. Louis and elect a new president in June. Hopefully, giving to missions through the Cooperative Program will continue to increase.

I hope the changes you face this year will make you stronger and take you to the next level of joyful living for God’s glory.

I pray that the changes we see in our churches and conventions will be consistent with Ronnie Floyd’s editorial, "Turning the tide in the SBC." Please read his perspective and pray for God’s power to turn the tide in 2016. Our God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, says the scriptures in Ephesians 3:20. I believe it.

Be sure to fill out the church compensation survey soon.
