Lottie Moon and Advent
Next week is the week of prayer for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering (LMCO) for International Missions. This is not just a week of prayer for prayer groups in the church. Neither is it a week of prayer for mission groups. It is a week of prayer for the whole church! That means it is a week of prayer that involves every member of the church and every family in the church.
Encourage families to pray for our missionaries at meal times, in personal devotions and during family devotions. Give them some specific names of IMB missionaries, and ask them to use the prayer guides provided for the week of prayer.
Ask everyone to seek God for the specific amount they should give to this important offering. We need to give more sacrificially than ever before.
Visit the LMCO resources page on the IMB website to discover resources to use in your church. The video clips are outstanding. Plan to play a video in every Sunday worship service to expose believers to a broader perspective of the needs.
Briefly, I want to remind you that the celebration of Advent begins this Sunday. Dr. Nathan Finn has a very good blog post on this important celebration. Please read it and consider ways to incorporate an advent celebration into our family devotions this Christmas. Some additional resources for Advent are on the BRnow website. Enjoy celebrating the first coming of the King!
While you are praying for international missions and celebrating advent, notice how well these two compliment each other. Advent is a celebration of the first coming of the King of Kings. The heart of international missions is telling people that Jesus has come and to prepare them for His second coming!
