The Tar Heel state has been in the news a lot in recent months. Anyone who watched the Super Bowl on February 7 knows there is a Carolina football team that made it to the final game – even if we didn’t take home the big trophy. Anyone who was wrapped up in March madness knows we have a Carolina basketball team that made it to the national championship. Again, we missed the big prize, but we made our mark. Now the foolish fury of some high-handed business leaders and a few uninformed pop stars is being unleashed on our state in an attempt to censor and defame us.
Everyone knows about North Carolina. Thanks to Charlotte City Council’s completely unnecessary ordinance that would have robbed many decent citizens of their rights, including privacy, and the state legislature’s attempt to restore order, the smear campaign appears to be making the state known in ways that grossly misrepresent who we are and what we stand for. We’ll be posting more news as it develops, especially as we learn more about the governor’s executive orders late Tuesday afternoon. Watch for more news on BRnow.org.
You may not know Ashley Unzicker. She is a young wife and mother who loves Jesus and likes to do something different for fun and creativity. She produces hip-hop videos. Some are instructive; some are parodies. Read the story about her latest parody that stirred some controversy in Baptist life. Seth Brown asked Unzicker to respond to some questions that have been raised by critics. Why not do the right thing? Just ask her. Read her story here.
Our advertisers are very valuable to us. Please pay attention to the advertisers in this and every edition of the BRweekly. They have important messages to share with Baptists in North Carolina and beyond. NCBAM, SEBTS, Dennis Nunn and Craig Church want to serve you and bless you in Kingdom ministry. The CP ad at the bottom points you to some great information and resources. So click on these ads and read their message to you in today’s issue.
Special thanks to the pastors and director of missions in the Atlantic Baptist Association. It was great to have lunch with you at Crabby Patty’s in Havelock last Friday. Thanks for your support!
