Next week is "Part 2" of North Carolina’s primary election. The first part on March 15 let voters choose candidates for the U.S. president and other offices – EXCEPT the candidates for (1) the United States Congress and (2) the North Carolina Supreme Court. Each party’s candidates for Congress and non-partisan judges will be decided in the June 7 primary. So it is important to vote next week!
Because this delayed primary is rare, we tried to call your attention to it through stories about the candidates who are members of churches affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. N.C. Baptists are our primary readership and the audience we are assigned to inform. One of our readers, pastor Rit Varriale, submitted a guest column that asks North Carolina Baptists to consider the importance of the N.C. Supreme Court seats in this primary. Read his commentary here. He explains that two judges will survive this primary. Please vote on June 7.
Sometimes we overlook a very important offering that helps care for our retired pastors and wives who served churches sacrificially. They cared for small congregations and simply were not able to set aside enough dollars for retirement. Today, some barely survive – many are widows. Please read this week’s front page story about Mission:Dignity and learn how your church can support these heroes in ministry. Your offerings will literally put food on the table for these men and women. We cannot abandon them. Please give generously to the Mission:Dignity offering.
