BCH petition needs your signature

You are probably aware of the battle that our Baptist Children’s Homes (BCH) has been waging in Washington, D.C. over the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) in recent weeks. The battle is not over. BCH sent an urgent email Tuesday afternoon to ask that supporters please respond to an important call to action. Here is the heart of the message:

“Friends, please take a moment to immediately sign this petition urging congress not to rush the passage of Family First Prevention Services Act of 2016 (H.R. 5456, also known as the Family First Act). Since Family First was removed from the 21st Century Cures Act last week, proponents of the legislation have been working overtime to see it attached to the continuing resolution before congress adjourns for the year on Friday.

“H.R. 5456 does NOT need to pass in its current form as it limits the amount of time children can be placed in the care of Baptist Children's Homes and other high-quality, family-focused residential care organizations to only two weeks. While promoters of this bill say, ‘the bill is not setting restrictions or time limits on children's homes for children that need those services,’ they, in fact, are setting limits.

“The promoters of this bill present an erroneous portrait of the effect and impact of children's homes, some even calling it the ‘warehousing of children.’ As we all know, this is not the case as Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina's house parents and highly-trained staff provide a compassionate, family environment to children.”  Click here to register your voice now.

Don’t forget, this is the week of prayer for international missions. We are praying for the ministry of our missionaries to unreached people and the generosity of those who support them – that’s us. Pray that God will be glorified through the most generous Lottie Moon offering in history.

It is a sad thing for a church to lose a pastor suddenly. The shock is more obvious when an active pastor dies unexpectedly. Such is the case for our brother Pat Cronin, pastor of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church in Greensboro for more than 20 years. Click here to read about his sudden passing on Sunday. Pray for his family and for this sister church.
