Change!

Change ... some like it; most do not. To some it is refreshing. To others it is depressing. To some it is essential. Others deplore it as unnecessary. To some it is new opportunity. Others may receive it as a threat, even outright rejection of who they are or who they have been.

One dictionary defines change this way, "to make or become different." They got that one right! Change is something different.

The Biblical Recorder asked Brian Upshaw to write a review of Thom Rainer’s book, "Who Moved My Pulpit?" The book is about change in the church. Please take a few minutes to read Upshaw’s review.

The book is also the subject of a one-day event Monday, March 6, 2017 called "Leading Change in the Church." This valuable learning event is jointly sponsored by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and LifeWay Christian Resources. It will be held at the West Campus of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Watch for an article in next week’s Biblical Recorder to learn more.

Here’s a thought. The next time you resist change, remember, change is what happened to you at the point of your salvation! That was a good thing, right? Take another look at that often quoted text in 2 Corinthians 5:17 for details.

I pray that this Sunday will be an outstanding day for you and the community of believers who gather with you each week. Sing a NEW song to the Lord!
