March Madness offers a lesson

This week’s print issue of the Biblical Recorder is packed with a lot of news that needs to be spread across the state. I hope the members of your church are getting the print issue and/or the digital edition – which is an exact copy, page by page, of the print. There’s so much that the people in your congregation NEED TO KNOW. For example ...

I interviewed Marty Dupree about his departure from the staff of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and the launch of his new ministry. Marty is a popular, widely-used speaker across the state and beyond. Read his story and pray for Marty and his family.

Dianna Cagle, BR’s production editor, reported about last week’s Disciple-Making Conference at Center Grove Baptist Church. She writes about the speaker’s call to "look vertically." If you missed this event, read the story and check out the link at the end to watch the videos of the event. This was a very refreshing and challenging conference.

Liz Tablazon, our circulation and social media manager, wrote a story about Caraway’s new auditorium. The facility is named after Bill Jackson, Caraway’s much-loved founder. N.C. Baptists are grateful for Caraway’s history of leading many to Christ and equipping countless believers to grow in Christ.

We welcome a new guest writer in this week’s issue. Denise George is an author and the wife of Timothy George, founding dean of Beason Divinity School in Birmingham, Ala. She writes about a very timely issue – the abuse of prescription drugs. Some cities in North Carolina are at the top of the nations list of worst cities for prescription drug abuse. This is not good, but churches can make a difference. Sun., March 19 is Substance Abuse Prevention Sunday. Read George’s column here.

March Madness has arrived! There is at least one big lesson churches and church leaders can learn from this madness over basketball tournaments. Read my editorial to learn this important lesson.

Have a great week! Thank you for supporting the ministry of the Biblical Recorder. Let me know how we can serve you better.
