Take it all in!

I’m thrilled to point you to some outstanding articles by our staff in this week’s print edition of the Biblical Recorder and online. I hope you will take it all in! Here’s a short summary:

Liz Tablazon wrote an encouraging story about a beautiful young lady who loves God, but struggled to get to the place where she could accept the way God made her. When you read this story about Betsy Bolick, you will join her in glorifying God for His masterful plan in every individual life. I know Betsy very well and I assure you, she is real. I know the genuineness of her life, because I was her pastor in Boone for many years.

Dianna Cagle shares a story about an unusual pastor in our state. Hector Miray, campus pastor of Vertical Church in Lumberton, has a very creative and effective ministry to those who enjoy the fascination of blockbuster comic book heroes. He has found a way to inject Christian principles in conversations with this cultural group through his writing and teaching skills. You have to read this one!

Seth Brown has two excellent articles this week. His front page story recalls some of his experiences from a recent mission trip to Bangkok, Thailand with a team from Corinth Baptist Church in Elizabeth City. His story exposes the heart-wrenching experiences of many Pakistani refugees and the heart-warming efforts of one Baptist church in Bangkok to apply godly love to those in need.

Also, Seth wrote an editorial that asks some thoughtful questions about the potential for expanding the Cooperative Program reach of Southern Baptists. He did not write this piece hastily, but with careful thought and feedback from others. It’s an issue Baptists should talk about. What are your thoughts on the subject?

My contribution to the news this week is first, a story about a great group of people in N.C. Baptist life – our Asian-American brothers and sisters. I spent a few days at their annual retreat at Caraway Conference Center in July, and I want you to learn how God is working in them.

Second, my editorial points out a hidden need among a treasured group of people. Guest writer Denise George wrote about grandparents who have found themselves in the role of parenting again. This is real and cannot be ignored. Please read and heed this call for help!

Thank you for allowing us to serve you! Your BR staff prays that your life and ministry is stronger because of what we do. We value your partnership in the gospel.
