Giving Tuesday

Next Tues., Nov. 27 is branded “giving Tuesday.” Counter to “Black Friday” when consumers spend money on buying “things” for Christmas, the day gives emphasis to generosity – sharing our resources with ministries and non-profit organizations. You’ve likely seen promotions from many Baptist ministries that are asking you to consider supporting their ministry on this day – Guidestone’s Mission Dignity, Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and many others. You cannot go wrong supporting Baptist ministries like these that are accountable, responsible, reputable and invested in the Great Commission for the long haul. Part of our mission at the Biblical Recorder is to promote the work of these ministries and many others. You may be drawn into the emotional appeals of questionable, fly-by-night causes, so be careful! Be a wise steward.

North Carolina Baptists’ strongest focus for giving every Thanksgiving is the special offering for our Baptist Children’s Homes. This offering supports a solid ministry that is making an eternal impact on countless lives every year. Michael Blackwell’s report to the convention during the recent annual meeting is summarized in this story posted on BRnow.org. Read it, be blessed and give generously to this powerful work.

One of the delights of my role as editor of the Biblical Recorder is to speak in a variety of events across the state. In recent weeks I’ve spoken in churches in Statesville, Reidsville, Albemarle, Pittsboro, Zebulon and Cary. For the next few weeks I’m serving Good Hope Baptist Church in Cary whose pastor recently accepted the call to serve a church in another state. My pulpit ministry there allows them some flexibility while they search for an interim pastor and prepare to search for their next pastor. Pray for the many churches like this one that are transitioning toward new pastoral leadership.

Happy Thanksgiving from your partners at the Biblical Recorder. We are thankful for the privilege of serving you and your church family!
