The Raleigh
News and Observer selected five finalists as their 2018 Tar Heel of the Year.
Richard Brunson, executive director of Baptists on Mission,
was one of the five. It is a honor that he is on this list, but disappointing that Brunson was not named as the winner. He should be. He would respectfully disagree with me and deflect the honor to the many volunteers who served sacrificially through the disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Florence. I should quickly add – they are
still serving in much-needed rebuild projects.
This is a good time to underscore the great need for volunteers to continue serving those who lost homes, schools, businesses and churches in this record-breaking disaster.
Baptists on Mission still need your support. Contact them and volunteer to serve soon. Thank you, Richard Brunson, and thank you volunteers for your kingdom service and faithful witness.
“Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these ...” (Matthew 25:40).

My editorial identifies the
five editorials you favored most last year. I also added an appeal that I hope you will read thoroughly. Please know that this is a serious effort to strengthen the ministry of the
Biblical Recorder as I prepare to retire this year. I have strong convictions about the important role of the BR in Baptist life. Can you and I have a personal conversation about it? Send an
email to me or call my office at 919-459-5696. Seriously!
Thank you for supporting the BR and for allowing us to be on your team. We serve you – our Baptist family.
