I don't like to wait!

What’s your biggest problem? Seriously, what do you consider one of your greatest spiritual battles? What do you struggle with on a regular basis? I could identify several personal challenges that stay with me, but I would probably say “waiting” is one of my biggest problems. My human flesh does like waiting for God to accomplish His will in His timing. I want answers and solutions soon – preferably now.

God knows everything. He knew man’s struggles long before we faced them. So, repeatedly in His Word our loving Father inserted verses like this one, “Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD,” Psalm 27:14, NASB. He keeps telling us to trust Him and wait on His timing, but I want answers now! Do you identify with what I’m saying?

In Old Testament days, Israel cried out to God to send the Messiah immediately! God heard their prayers, but His answer was, “Wait.” At just the right time, the Savior came, but they did not expect the Messiah to suffer pain and humiliation on a cross. They did not expect Him to defeat death. “Good Friday,” as we call it, was a very bad day for Jesus’ disciples. Their whole world crashed on Friday, but God said, “Wait, I’m not finished.” Sunday's coming.

Three days later, everyone was glad they waited for God to accomplish His plan, His way. That is a great reminder for me every time I get impatient (which is at least several times a day). Wait on the Lord!

The next two Sundays are very important days of remembrance and celebration for New Testament churches. This weekend we commemorate Palm Sunday – the final days of our Lord’s earthly life and ministry, and His path to the cross. Next Sunday we celebrate the resurrection – the ultimate defeat of death and victory for every follower of the living Savior, Jesus Christ, the Messiah. I’m glad we waited. To God be the glory. Have a great celebration this Sunday – and every day! He is risen!
