Sunday's coming!

Some call it “Holy Week.” It is the week before Easter. Many churches are holding special services related to our Lord’s last supper, His crucifixion, burial and ultimate victory over death – the resurrection! I hope you are using the week to focus more intently on the greatness of our holy God and His overwhelming gift of grace to us through His only Son. Sunday’s coming! There is much to celebrate!

Two highly respected, long-term leaders in the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina announced their retirement recently. In the April 6 edition of the Biblical Recorder, Dianna Cagle wrote a story about Donnie Wiltshire’s retirement. He is one of our most loved and respected Baptist leaders. For 20 years Donnie has faithfully served our deaf, those with developmental disabilities and many others with special needs. We will miss him as he retires to Texas. If you did not see the story, you can read it here.

In this week’s edition of the Recorder, I wrote a story about Guillermo Soriano, who is retiring after 12 years of ministry in our state. He and his wife, Maritza, have served us by giving leadership to multi-cultural ministries. Our churches have greatly benefitted by their passion to reach Hispanics, Asians and those of other cultures who live in North Carolina. They have also served more broadly through Southern Baptists’ North American Mission Board. Read their story and pray for them as they return to their homeland of Honduras. This couple has blessed me through their assistance with the Hispanic ministry of the church I pastored before coming to the Biblical Recorder – Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Boone. They are special friends and will be missed. I hope there will be an opportunity to visit them in Honduras!

A lot of Southern Baptist news is rolling off the press with announcements of new leaders, changes at our seminaries, the coming annual convention in Birmingham and so much more. Some of that news is highlighted in this BRweekly. Be sure to follow the news in your print edition of the BR and online, where news is updated every weekday and sometimes on weekends.

Have a very happy, victorious Easter! He is risen!!
