    Valverde returns as Hispanic fellowship president

    The National Hispanic Baptist Fellowship of the Southern Baptist Convention, in a four-hour meeting June 12, discussed business, honored a Hispanic leader, worshiped and heard God’s Word. The group of approximately 50 elected new officers, made an amendment to their constitution and voted on three motions brought forth from their last meeting.

    Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission President Russell Moore has clarified that he never intended to criticize all evangelical supporters of President-elect Donald Trump, noting many were motivated by “biblical convictions” and “voted their conscience.” In a blog post, Moore acknowledged “pointed conversations in my denominational family about the election … some of them ... directed at me.”

    Two buses full of Annual Meeting attendees embarked on a guided prayer tour around Greensboro to pray for needs in the areas of church planting, church revitalization, church bodies, unreached peoples and college campuses. Each bus drove through a separate “pocket of lostness” as identified by the convention’s Strategic Focus Team.

    The Biblical Recorder booth attracted many visitors during the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina’s annual meeting. Each year the BR gives away prizes to those who register. This year the bigger prizes included a Yeti cooler and tumblers as well as handmade ink pens in the BR’s trademark red.
