    Hendricks named editor of Baptist Press

    The Executive Committee has named Shawn Hendricks as editor of Baptist Press, effective Sept. 1. Last year, Hendricks began transitioning into his new role when he was named managing editor/director of operations. As editor, Hendricks will continue to direct the daily operations and content of Baptist Press and maintain the administrative duties he began a year ago.

    The Executive Committee has named Shawn Hendricks, former Biblical Recorder managing editor, as Baptist Press director of operations. The new role will be in addition to his regular duties as managing editor. Art Toalston, who has served as editor of Baptist Press for more than 23 years, will transition into a new role as senior editor.

The app replaces Baptist Press’ mobile site by which smartphone users accessed the news service prior to the redesign of its website last September.

  • Study: Gays can change sexual orientation

    A major seven-year study published in a mainstream journal is challenging the secular notion that gays and lesbians cannot change their sexual orientation. The longitudinal study followed 61 subjects for between six and seven years and found that 23 percent of them reported successful conversion to heterosexual orientation and function and another 30 percent reported stable behavioral chastity with a significant dis-identification with gay orientation.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southern Baptist disaster relief specialists are responding in the aftermath of a 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Turkey the afternoon of Oct. 23. The disaster killed at least 238 people and sent tens of thousands into the streets as apartment and office buildings collapsed or cracked, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
