    Campbell, Wingate install presidents

    Campbell and Wingate universities officially installed new presidents this month. Campbell University in Buies Creek, which was founded in 1887, installed J. Bradley Creed. Wingate University installed its 10th president, Rhett Brown, who is the first former graduate to hold the office of president at the school, which was founded in 1896.

    Earl Smith was coach when Campbell last played football in 1950. Now 91 years old, he returned to see his former team play its 2008 opener against the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers. He was one of 5,845 people in attendance, the largest crowd ever at a Campbell home athletic event.
