    Assisted suicide marches on as Congress fails to act

    Physician-assisted suicide officially has a new home in the wake of congressional inaction, and its proponents are pushing more jurisdictions to legalize the lethal practice. The District of Columbia’s Death With Dignity Act went into effect Feb. 18 when Congress failed to overturn the measure by the deadline.

    D.C. church’s lesbian co-pastors spark ‘concern’

    A Washington D.C. church’s decision to call a legally-married lesbian couple as co-pastors has led a fellow District of Columbia Baptist Convention (DCBC) pastor to call for “prayerful dialog” between convention leadership and the church. A Southern Baptist Convention seminary president suggested the DCBC should disfellowship the congregation.

    D.C. gives initial OK to assisted suicide

    Physician-assisted suicide in America’s capital city has gained first approval, and Southern Baptist leaders locally and nationally are warning about the consequences. The D.C. Council’s action occurred only a week before Colorado voters will decide a similar proposal on the Nov. 8 ballot. Five states already have legalized assisted suicide.
