    Reformed theologian, pastor R.C. Sproul dies

    Robert Charles “R.C.” Sproul, the Reformed theologian, pastor, teacher and lecturer who founded and chaired Ligonier Ministries and authored close to 100 books, including “The Holiness of God,” died Dec. 14. He was 78. Sproul was known for delivering uncompromising messages on the holiness and sovereignty of God in his writing and video teaching series.

    The North American Mission Board’s Send Relief ministry has been asked to manage the disaster response on behalf of the Convention of Southern Baptist Churches in Puerto Rico. “We have officially requested Send Relief to coordinate the disaster relief response in Puerto Rico,” said Jorge Alvarez, who leads the Puerto Rican convention.

    The city of Pensacola, Fla., has appealed a federal judge’s ruling that a 34-foot-tall cross in one of its public parks must be removed. The city filed a brief claiming those who filed suit lack legal standing to bring a complaint and that the cross does not violate the U.S. Constitution’s ban of government-established religion.
