    2-year-old dies at NOBTS preschool center

    A 2-year-old child died Jan. 11 while eating lunch at the Early Learning Center (ELC) at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. The child lost consciousness after choking on food just after noon Thursday. Efforts to resuscitate the child by members of the ELC staff and EMS responders were unsuccessful.

    Even as family and friends mourn the loss of a loved one, they are celebrating the Christ-honoring legacy left behind by Emily Martin, an interim youth leader who died Jan. 1 while serving on her third mission trip to Kenya. Martin passed away following complications from a blood clot that developed inside her lungs.

The question considered was whether substitution is enough to communicate the full meaning of atonement.

    Jerry N. Barlow, professor of preaching and pastoral work at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, died Nov. 11 after a brief illness. He was 72. Though battling his own health issues, Barlow ministered to others through the final week of his life.

    New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary kicked off its 100th anniversary celebration with special events and the announcement of upcoming centennial initiatives focused on evangelism and missions. Activities began with the annual Founders Day chapel service, as Chuck Kelley pointed past the seminary’s founding to the true “seed” from which the seminary sprang – the Acts 1:8 commission.
