    Thomas J. Nettles, professor of historical theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary since 1997, is retiring from full-time teaching after 38 years in the classroom. His Baptists and the Bible, co-authored with Russ Bush, and By His Grace and for His Glory have had wide influence and established Nettles as a Baptist scholar of the front rank.

    Justice Anderson, a Southern Baptist missionary in Argentina for 17 years who later founded Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s World Missions Center, died Dec. 29. He was 83. Anderson and his wife Mary Ann were Southern Baptist missionaries to Argentina from 1959-74.

    Longtime prof Marvin Tate dies at 87

    Marvin Embry Tate Jr., a longtime professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, died Nov. 16. He was 87. Tate was a professor of Old Testament interpretation at Southern Seminary from 1960 until 1995, and then a senior professor until 2003.
