    Midwestern accepts Spurgeon scholar’s resignation

    Christian T. George submitted his resignation May 3 to Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. The resignation was “due to a personal moral failing,” the seminary told the Biblical Recorder June 1. George was assistant professor of historical theology and curator of the Spurgeon Library.

    When Kathleen Skaar moved to Raleigh more than 20 years ago, she and her husband, Anders, did the “proper thing:” joined a church. Both admit they did not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ at the time. In April 1995 Skaar attended a church-sponsored women’s retreat. Skaar gave her life to Christ that day.

    The Southern Baptist Convention’s Council of Seminary Presidents, which oversees Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives, honored Sumners June 15 at the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in St. Louis, giving him and his wife Donna a certificate of appreciation along with a trip to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons.

    The Spurgeon Library dedication, record enrollment, faculty elections and campus master plan approval highlighted Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s fall trustee meeting on Oct. 19-20. Trustees meet on the campus of Midwestern Seminary in October and April each year to conduct institutional business.

    Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary worked with Northeastern Baptist College during the first half of August to pack up a 2,200-volume collection of music references, antique hymnals and books on music from the seminary’s Mill Valley campus in California and deliver it to Vermont at NEBC’s Hogue Library in Bennington.
