A new devotional plan connects Bible reading to the Winter Olympics and gives readers insight into how the Bible has affected current and former Olympians.

Produced by the Museum of the Bible, “Winter Olympics and the Bible” is a 10-day plan available for free on the YouVersion Bible app and at Bible.com.

“These Winter Olympians all had significant moments in their lives where the Bible provided hope and comfort in the face of struggles and triumphs,” said Allison Brown, a writer and editor for the Museum of the Bible in Washington. “Readers can use this reading plan individually as part of their daily routine, or complete the plan with friends as they cheer for their favorite athletes.”

The Museum of the Bible produced a similar plan during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and decided to do the same for the Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, based upon its popularity.

The devotionals included in the plan, along with select passages of scripture, include stories about current Olympians Kelly Clark, Elana Meyers-Taylor, Nick Geopper and Nicole Hensley, in addition to previous Olympians such as Lolo Jones and Lyndon Rush.

Geopper, a freestyle skier, said Philippians 4:13 has helped him get through challenges he has faced.

“I kind of envision me skiing and God is kind of like an eagle right next to me screeching in my ear that everything is going to be all good,” Geopper is quoted as saying in the devotional. “I just try my best and that’s all I can ask for.”

The devotional plan is also available in Spanish.
