Messengers to the 181st annual meeting of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSC) approved two resolutions and elected three unopposed pastors to office Nov. 8.
Mark Harris, pastor of First Baptist Church in Charlotte, was elected president after being nominated by Marty Jacumin, pastor of Bay Leaf Baptist Church in Raleigh. The first and second vice presidents also ran unopposed. CJ Bordeaux, pastor of Gorman Baptist Church in Durham, was elected first vice president. He was nominated by Bobby Blanton, pastor of Lake Norman Baptist Church in Huntersville.
Messengers elected Timmy D. Blair Sr., pastor of Piney Grove Baptist Chapel in Angier, second vice president. Blair was nominated by Lee Pigg, pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Monroe.
The convention drew 1,719 messengers and 138 visitors.
Messengers passed two resolutions that deal with marriage and gambling.

Jim Jacumin, messenger from East Valdese Baptist Church in Valdese and a member of the BSC Board of Directors, brought the marriage resolution before messengers. The resolution affirms support of the marriage amendment, which the General Assembly recently voted to place before voters on the 2012 primary ballot. Passage of the amendment to the state constitution would define marriage as the union between one man and one woman.
