All three North Carolina Baptists on Missions's (BoM) large feeding units are setting up Tuesday, Sept. 16 in Baytown, Texas to assist with Hurricane Ike disaster relief efforts there, according to BoM's Executive Director Richard Brunson.
Brunson said the combined capacity of all three feeding units is more than 70,000 meals daily. Teams and equipment were traveling Monay and plan to start serving meals Tuesday, he said.
A large amount of other equipment and volunteers also is in transit to Baytown, Texas including tanker units, generator units, shower units and laundry units.
"We anticipate sending recovery volunteers at a later time," Brunson said in an email release. "We will update you when we are ready to send recovery volunteers and teams."
If you are a trained disaster relief volunteer, you can stay in touch with response opportunities at the BoM's website.
Brunson asked for prayer for victims of Hurricane Ike and for volunteers as they seek to serve. Safety is always a key concern, both in travel and on the work site. Pray also, Brunson said, that the volunteers' physical presence will lead to spiritual blessings.
