Sorting through the layers of meetings, actions, recommendations, resolutions and motions from the 2017 Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) annual meeting in Phoenix is a challenging task.

Adequate news coverage is the result of the cooperative effort of many journalists, photographers and videographers from Baptist newspapers, state conventions and entities across our convention.

You can thank Baptist Press, an office of the SBC Executive Committee, for organizing this monumental assignment.

Their work is essential to the mission of Southern Baptists.

In this edition of the Biblical Recorder our staff included as much information our limited pages allow.

The next edition will include more valuable news and information that needs to reach the hearts and ears of your church family.

Everyone in your congregation needs to hear how God is working in our 47,272 partner churches.

Share this news with the church. Point them to the website BRnow.org. Let them read news that will prompt them to pray and news that will produce rejoicing. People need to know!

Resisting the urge to comment on convention highlights, I yield these pages to other Baptist leaders who shared their insightful analysis of major convention issues. If you have another view, please share it with us by email or in a written letter.

Also, I want to allow Dave Miller, president of the 2017 SBC Pastor’s Conference, to share his heart with you. Unsolicited, he wrote a letter to N.C. Baptists. Last month we asked our readers to support a scholarship fund for pastors of smaller churches to attend the conference.

Through your generosity, the Biblical Recorder sent $2,400 to the fund. In addition, the North Carolina Baptist Foundation sent a generous check for $2,000 to the scholarship fund. These gifts directly funded at least four pastors who would not have been able to attend without your help. Thank you for your partnership in the gospel!
