  • Do you have a biblical worldview?

April 9 2012 by K. Allan Blume, BR editor | with 1 comments

Everyone has a worldview. Very few people have a biblical worldview. A worldview has been described as the lense through which one sees everything around him. It is the filter through which one interprets every activity and event he observes and experiences.

  • Opportunity is knocking at our door

March 26 2012 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 0 comments

By definition, an opportunity is limited by time. An opportunity to help a friend is limited to the point in time when your friend has a specific need. An opportunity is a favorable circumstance, a moment in time, an open door to do something that can only be done at that given moment.

North America needs Jesus! The North American Mission Board (NAMB) says 259 million people in the United States and Canada do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. And most of them do not live in close proximity to a church. So, how will they hear?

  • SBC name option proposal ‘only reasonable path’

February 27 2012 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 0 comments

Bryant Wright, president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), is a wise and gifted leader. I have great respect for him. Admittedly, I was disappointed when he announced last September that he had named a task force to study the possibility of changing the name of the Southern Baptist Convention. From my perspective the study was unnecessary and a distraction from our primary mission.

As an 18-year-old who responded to God’s call, I learned that ministry can be a series of battles. Sitting in the office of a Baptist leader in our state, I shared with my respected friend some great victories I was experiencing through the preaching of the gospel.

On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its decision in the Roe v. Wade case opening an era of human devaluation. Each January, the Sunday closest to that decision date is reserved as a time of remembrance. We call it Sanctity of Life Sunday.

  • Fear of God brings peace

December 19 2011 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 0 comments

Peace is one of those beautiful words everyone likes to use at Christmas. Both the believer and the unbeliever have a concept of peace that is comforting and positive. The word is probably the most heavily used word in Christmas cards and public displays. Even our Jewish friends publicize this word from the Hebrew language, shalom.

  • Pastors, do we ‘get it?’

November 21 2011 by K. Allan Blume, BR editor | with 1 comments

Recently, I asked a young missionary to tell me about his home church. Although I’m somewhat familiar with the pastor and the church, I don’t know a lot about either. I would say it is a very good church, with beautiful facilities and a very good pastor.

  • We can’t afford to drift

November 4 2011 by K. Allan Blume, BR editor | with 0 comments

Drifting is a dangerous thing. I have sensed times when my life was not on a clear course. I had not lost my salvation. I don’t believe that is possible. I would not say I was “backslidden” – however that word might be interpreted across Baptist circles. I just was not tied to a specific path at that moment, and I needed some time alone with God to tie the ropes of my life to His purpose.

In over 40 years of ministry I have enjoyed the privilege of ministering in small churches, large churches and every size in between. There are advantages and disadvantages in churches of every size. But there is value in each, also. It is my conviction that God has a purpose for every local body of Christ.
