  • So, what’s your authority?

April 22 2014 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 0 comments

Everyone has a beginning point for what they believe. You may call it a foundation or an ultimate authority. It is the source for how one behaves and what a person really believes is true.   For some that authority is oneself. This person makes up the rules of life as they go along, with pleasure, desire and personal preference at the center of their world.

For more than 20 years secularists have been saturating American minds with their list of the ultimate evils.   Their propaganda machine has successfully convinced many that the enemies of a great nation are the intolerant, bullies, narrow-minded and hate mongers.

  • Your ‘information missionaries’

March 11 2014 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 0 comments

Information is power! Information can change the course of history. When the infantry marches into battle, one piece of intelligence information can make the difference between victory or defeat. When a squadron of fighter jets flies toward an assigned target, one piece of information can make the difference in life and death.

  • The problem with missions

February 25 2014 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 1 comments

We believe in doing missions. We’re not interested in just talking about it or thinking about it. Obeying the final commission of our Savior is part of our theological DNA. It is at the core of how we “do church. ” North Carolina Baptists want to do missions.

  • Give us religious liberty!

February 11 2014 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 1 comments

The battle for religious liberty is never-ending. Every chapter of history records stories of citizens in many nations who have been denied the basic human right to worship as they choose. Most who were denied this right were Christians. But other religious groups have been robbed of their freedoms, also.

  • Is my church comfortable?

January 28 2014 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 0 comments

Wait a minute! Is that the question we should be asking? Where in scripture are believers promised to be a fellowship of comfort and ease? When did the Christian movement experience the shift away from a life of sacrifice? When did we begin to spend so much time arguing over the temperature of the auditorium or the amount of padding in the seats?   Recently Tom Elliff, president of the International Mission Board (IMB), was speaking during a missions conference at Corinth Baptist Church in Elizabeth City.

The biblical view of the sanctity of human life is not vague. God’s crowning achievement in creation is human life. It is unique and valuable. I learned the value of tithing and giving very early in my Christian life. My dad was an alcoholic. He had lost his job and was deep in debt due to his alcohol problem. When I was 10 years old, I saw my father give his life to Christ and abandon alcohol forever.

  • Too big for us!

December 2 2013 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 0 comments

Taking the gospel to the whole world is a big assignment – too big for all International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries together. We’ll need serious multiplication – not addition – of this current mission force just to make a dent in the task of proclaiming Christ to the world.

  • Be thankful!

November 18 2013 by K. Allan Blume, BR Editor | with 0 comments

I am thankful. I know there is much in the world to be grieved about. We feel the burden of our nation’s ungodly debt, failed leadership, and unprecedented spiritual darkness. International calamity and vast lostness grieve our souls.   The apostle Paul itemized these concerns and many others in the third chapter of Colossians, where he described the perspective of the believer in Christ.

Milestones are defined as significant historical markers in the life of an individual, organization or nation. They are points that should cause us to pause, recognize, celebrate and give thanks – such as a church’s 100-year anniversary, the celebration of a pastor’s long term of service and other meaningful accomplishments in Kingdom work.

In recognition of Pastor Appreciation Month, I am sharing some personal comments about pastors who faithfully serve our churches. Baptist pastors in North Carolina are a very diverse lot. Many carry labels like “old fashioned,” “contemporary,” “Calvinist,” “traditional,” “evangelical,” and “purpose driven.
