Goodbye, hello

By Tony W. Cartledge BR Editor Any organization is only as good as its staff, and the Biblical Recorder has been blessed through the years with many excellent employees in both our editorial and our support departments. Readers who pay attention to bylines may have noticed the absence of Suzy Barile's name lately. After three and a half years of good and faithful work as our part-time news writer/editorial assistant, Suzy has moved on to a full time job and a good career opportunity with the North Carolina State University alumni magazine. We're proud of her and wish her well.

If readers have found an increase in grammatical goofs lately, it's because Suzy was our grammar whiz. Now we have to write more carefully and look things up more often because we can't rely on Suzy to set us straight.

As we bid Godspeed to Suzy, we greet Dennis Parker, who is now hard at work processing text, shaping up stories, proofreading copy and generally plugging in wherever he's needed. Dennis is a faithful member of a local Baptist church who comes to us with many years of experience in publishing, writing and public relations (he'll be helping us some in the latter area, too).

Dennis' background includes time in Washington, D.C. as a staffer for Congressman Jim Gardner and as press liaison/speech writer for Congressman Bob Mathias.

We think Dennis' broad range of experience and skills (not to mention a nice knack for organization) will serve North Carolina Baptists well through his labors in behalf of the Biblical Recorder.

When we first discussed the job opportunity, Dennis said there are only two days a year he really needs to have off - for his church's barbecue fundraisers for missions. Once he assured me that take-out plates were available, I agreed.

Welcome, Dennis!
